Role of the Organiser

Ahead of the 2025 Federal Election, Tomorrow Movement’s focus will be putting the ambitious climate solutions on the agenda of the Labor government. We will do this using momentum organising, by escalating the urgency of the crisis and activating the public. Working with our staff and volunteer team, the Organiser will support young people on organising projects specific to their local area.

The Organiser will have an eye to our movement building goals and will support implementation of our campaigns and organising strategy. A large part of this role will be supporting upcoming actions, helping plan campaigns for next year, and leading on planning the Fellowship retreat.

The Organiser will join an existing organising team which will implement Tomorrow Movements first Fellowship, starting in January 2025. Through coaching, designing training content and supporting teams and leaders. They will have a strong understanding of community organising. This organiser will work closely with the Campaigns Lead and is managed and supported by the National Director. The role is remote and can be based anywhere, with office options in Sydney and Melbourne.

Starting Mid/Late September on a 9 month contract with the possibility to become permanent. This role is 0.6 FTE.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing the Fellowship program with support, including planning a 4 day training retreat in early 2025
  • Helping develop strategy and organising resources for fellowship participants
  • Recruitment for the fellowship
  • Support the growth and leadership of fellowship participants and other leaders, to build a movement big and diverse enough to win our demands
  • Supporting participants and local teams to run effective campaigns and effective teams
  • Monitor and intervene on movement culture, ensuring we live up to our 12 movement principles.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Engaging with MPs and political decision makers
  • Building relationships and alignment with other movements and partners
  • Assist in responding to emergent campaign opportunities
  • Help design and deliver action sequences and campaign strategy
  • Work with the rest of the team on longer term campaign strategy and planning
  • Support with the achievement of our fundraising targets including small donor fundraising

Success metrics

  • 10-20 fellowship participants are recruited to the Fellowship
  • Fellowship participants are trained with basic organising skills and running active campaigns leading up to the 2025 Federal election.
  • Through the fellowship, 3-5 teams are running strong and active campaigns.
  • Local teams are supported and prepared to run campaigns ahead of the Federal Election
  • 20-40 leaders are skilled up at a training retreat to campaign and run local campaigns ahead of the Federal Election

Attributes and experience that will help you perform this role

You will be well suited to this role if you:

  • Are committed to Tomorrow Movement’s goal of winning a tomorrow that works for everyone and not just big business
  • Experience developing campaign strategy and tactics, training materials and/or organising in communities and teams
  • Understanding of the role of community organising and popular movements in winning transformational change (are familiar with momentum organising)
  • Understand that you are one of a few staff members in a volunteer led movement and are committed to organising yourself out of a job
  • Have previous experience as a campaigner, community organiser or coach
  • Are a strong communicator (written and verbal)
  • Enjoy creative problem solving and working in teams
