The Manager oversees all aspects of the art centre’s operation and reports directly to the Board of Directors. They are responsible for ensuring strategic and sustainable growth through implementation of the business plan as well as maintaining and developing relationships within the cultural, arts, tourism, Indigenous and economic development sectors. This position manages three full time and one part time staff member and a range of consultants and service providers.
The Manager is also responsible for administration, financial management, funding, marketing, sales, and ensuring the delivery of arts and cultural services. To succeed in this position, the successful applicant must evidence the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment. Previous experience in a similar role will be highly regarded.
Kubin Community, Mua Island, Torres Strait, Queensland. Mua Island is a 15-minute flight from Thursday Island, with multiple daily connections to Cairns.
Moa Arts is located in Kubin village, Mua Island in the Torres Strait (Zenadth Kes), halfway between the tip of Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Moa Arts is a not-for-profit Indigenous Corporation and Public Benevolent Institution, registered with ORIC as Ngalmun Lagau Minaral Torres Strait Islander Corporation. The art centre was established in 2009, building on a long history of artistic excellence in the community.
Moa Arts supports emerging and established artists from Kubin Community. These artists work in a range of traditional and contemporary mediums, creating works that are exhibited and collected nationally and internationally. The art centre is a vital contributor to Kubin, providing meaningful employment and professional development opportunities to artists and arts workers.
Moa Arts has a strong artistic plan in place, that sees workshops and skills developed on the island coupled with an exhibition program that includes major art fairs in Australia as well as international opportunities.
