About Transcend Australia

Transcend Australia (Transcend) is a not-for-profit charity whose purpose is to improve and celebrate the lives of trans, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) young people and their families by providing opportunities for peer support, the provision of information and resources, and advocating for change to services and systems.

One of the primary aims of Transcend is to support families, parents, and carers to navigate the mental health and health system for transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) children, young people and their families.

In addition, we offer support to families in securing fair, respectful and inclusive outcomes for their children across of range of social and institutional settings that intersect with their lives.

Position Objective

This position is a full time role that will have a key role in our growing organisation by supporting the implementation of our Model of Care and delivery of support services to a growing number families.

Support is based on a person-centred, strengths-based approach that might include providing peer support, information, empathic listening, education, linkages to other services and connection.

Role Criteria

  • Personal experience of caring for or supporting a child and/or young adult family member who is trans, gender diverse or non-binary.
  • Relevant qualification and at least 3 years experience having undertaken a similar role working with families, parents and carers and supporting peer-based support activities.
  • Background, ideally from the health or mental health sector, that demonstrates strong quality and risk management skills, and commitment to system implementation and reporting.
  • Capacity and experience delivering group-based activities with families.
  • Capacity to share own lived experience in a meaningful, appropriate and considered way.
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, families and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated awareness of the role of families in helping trans, gender diverse and non-binary children and young people live affirming and productive lives.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Provision of direct client engagement and support in person and via telehealth, in individual and group settings.
  • Meet the requirements of the program in terms of targets, data collection and reporting.
  • Contribute to the design of support resources for families and trans, gender diverse and non-binary young people in various settings.
  • Contribute to clinical reporting, such as critical incident management systems and other relevant risk and incident reporting mechanisms.
  • Support Transcend Australia to improve client experiences with the use of digital solutions for service registration, appointment bookings and accessible support programs.
  • Professionally represent Transcend Australia at service network meetings.
