Transgender Victoria (TGV) has been operating for over 20 years and is Victoria’s leading body for transgender, gender diverse, and non-binary advocacy. We work to achieve justice, equity and inclusive service provision for trans and gender diverse people, their partners, families and friends. ABOUT THE ROLE
The TGD Peer Navigator plays a vital role in supporting and empowering transgender and gender diverse people within the community. As a trusted peer support figure, the navigator will provide essential guidance, mentorship, and resources to help individuals navigate the challenges they may encounter while exploring their gender identity.
Responsibilities:
- Peer Support and Mentorship:
- Establish and maintain supportive relationships with transgender and gender diverse people seeking guidance and support
- Offer empathetic and non-judgmental listening to help individuals share their experiences and concerns
- Share personal experiences, stories, and insights to inspire and guide people through their gender journey
- Provide encouragement and validation, fostering a positive and safe environment for self-exploration
- Development of regional engagement strategies
- Contribution to programs reporting
- Information and Resource Dissemination:
- Stay updated on current transgender-related issues, resources, and support services available to TGD people in the local and broader community
- Share relevant information and resources with TGD people to help them access appropriate healthcare, counseling, educational opportunities, and legal support
- Collaborate with other organisations and agencies to facilitate workshops and events to enhance transgender awareness and promote inclusivity
- Assist with the maintenance of the peer navigation database

ABOUT YOU
Key Selection Criteria:
- Lived experience as a transgender, gender diverse, and/or non-binary person
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with TGD people and community stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to connect with peers in a genuine and empathetic manner to provide personalised support
- Knowledge of transgender issues, challenges, and resources available to TGD people
- Familiarity with local and national LGBTQ+ support services and networks
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Respectful, inclusive, and affirming attitude towards diverse gender identities
- Willingness to undergo training and development as required by the organisation
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends for events and outreach activities, including travel to regional and rural Victoria
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience using client management systems such as Salesforce
- Experience working in a peer navigation or counselling environment
- Formal training in vicarious trauma or ASIST training
- Relevant qualification in health, social services or community development
- Full license and regular access to own vehicle
