Why this role matters

The Support in Public Housing Program assists people to sustain their tenancies with the Department of Families Fairness and Housing, and to live as well as possible within their home. The program provides:

  • Assertive outreach
  • Short Term Case Management
  • Brief intervention, service linkage and community referral
  • Social and community-based group activities

The program supports people aged 55 years and over living at five public housing locations within North Melbourne. The program aims to increase health and social outcomes for residents while increasing the capacity for people to reside in their own home independently.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Therapeutic Recreation Worker to manage social engagement activities and programs to increase individuals’ skills, knowledge and health outcomes. Activities can be centre-based or in the community and encourage participation for people from diverse backgrounds.

Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent, part-time (15.2 hours per week) position based in North Melbourne, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5.

You will successfully

  • Coordinate capacity building and recreational activities.
  • Create a safe and welcoming space for residents of all backgrounds.
  • Coordinate the delivery of Community grants relating to capacity building and recreational activities.
  • Utilise trauma informed, strengths based, and person centred practice principles in all client work.
  • Work proactively with residents to assist them with developing and maintaining independent living skills.
  • Work in partnership and other Support in Public Housing Program staff.
  • Monitor, progress, and achieve program targets and outcomes.
  • Support students from partnered university programs.
  • Identify risks to residents, staff, TSA and bring them to the attention of the Team Leader as soon as possible.

You will have

  • A degree qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or related field is preferred.
  • A diploma qualification with at least 2 years Community Sector experience.
  • A Victoria Working with Children Check.
