Wollongong Corps is a community-focused church partnering with the community to help transform one life at a time with the love of Jesus. We have ministry areas for people of all ages and welcome anyone who wants to join.

The First Floor is a program of The Salvation Army in the Illawarra area (NSW) for individuals and families impacted by dependencies and/or mental health issues, and grief and loss. Services provided include counselling, support groups and educational programs.

THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and empathetic individual to join our team as a Youth and Family Support Worker. In this role you would be required to provide quality care and support to participants of the First Floor Program, working effectively by counselling individuals, developing and facilitating programs to provide a comprehensive client service within the values and mission of TSA.

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a part time position, 22.8 hours per week ongoing.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, Social stream, level 2.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote, support and model the values and ethos of The Salvation Army and to facilitate pastoral support where required
  • Tertiary qualifications and relevant experience in psychology, alcohol and other drug work, mental health, youth work or relevant discipline (or working towards achieving same).
  • Relevant experience working in a community setting, particularly working with youth and families experiencing AOD/mental health issues.
  • An understanding of the issues encountered by young people in out-of-home care and their families.
  • An understanding of the issues faced by those experiencing dependencies &/or mental illness, and their impacts on families & community
  • An awareness of available resources in AOD, Community Services and Health Sectors
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
