Twenty10 is seeking an experienced peer worker to join our Housing team, within our Client Services Team (CST), working with clients in our transitional housing program.Primary responsibilities include providing housing related and other advocacy and support, internal and external referrals, creating goal setting plans, maintaining regular meetings, facilitating brokerage and other client requests.

In additon to key responsibilities as part of CST, they also share responsibility for some client intake, short-term case management to clients not in the housing program, referrals and support across all client activities, as well as providing specialist information to a wide range of stakeholders. They work within a person-centred, trauma-informed practice framework to provide safer spaces and opportunities for LGBTIQA+ young people. The role is responsible for the timely management of service user files and data. All CST staff are provided with individual supervision, clinical consultation and professional development opportunities.

The Youth Services Officer - Housing is a permanent, part-time role, 67.5 hours per fortnight, paid at SCHADS L4, working office hours and is based at Twenty10 in Newtown, Sydney.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Client services:

  • Provide advocacy, support and case management, working alongside service users in the Housing program, to create, implement and review support plans as per the Operational Plan, funding deliverables, organisational policy and best practice principles
  • Assist service users in the Housing program with moving, setting up and maintaining their properties in accordance with Twenty10 policies
  • Provide soft entry, triage, intake, assessments and referrals for potential service users including to other parts of organisation and/or other external supports
  • Provide advocacy and collaborate with support networks such as family, friends, service providers and community, including co-case management within a multitude of systems, including both government and non-government agencies
  • Assist with the overall coordination of support for service users across all programs a Twenty10, as part of the Client Services Team as required. This includes providing crisis intervention management and support, assisting in organising and facilitating drop in, group work, projects and events, and providing ongoing short-term case management to service users not in the Housing program.
  • Safeguard vulnerable persons including children, through identifying and reporting concerns of abuse or neglect as per Mandatory Reporting Guidelines and organisational policy.

Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or training in community services, social sciences, youth work or related health field, demonstrated work experience in a similar role or discipline, and/or minimum of 3 years experience in case management
  • Completion of ASIST training in the last 3 years or willingness to complete
  • Completion of current First Aid training or willingness to complete
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance
  • Current NSW Driver's License

Experience Required

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the current issues affecting LGBTIQA+ young people, including mental health and homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to vulnerable people, particularly young people who are LGBTIQA+ at risk of homelessness or marginalisation, their parents, caregivers and families
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of working within a youth engagement, therapeutic and anti-oppressive framework with young people, families and groups. Including but not limited to:
    • co-design, youth engagement and participation
    • community development and social inclusion
    • trauma-informed care and person-centred practice
    • strengths-based and harm-minimisation principles
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable people
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and culturally diverse communities
  • Willingness and ability to sometimes work outside of normal business hours and to travel for short periods if required

Computer Skills

  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) and internet applications
  • Demonstrated experience in working with client data management systems CRM database

Aptitude & Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport with a wide range of people including different genders, sexual orientations, ethnical backgrounds, age and experience
  • Strong reflective practice and self-care skills, with a commitment to maintaining currency of skills and knowledge
  • Strong initiative and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and ability for conceptual and strategic problem solving
