The Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) is one of Australia’s leading campaigning Trade Unions with a high media and public profile. The TWU exists to give transport workers a powerful voice in support of social and economic justice. We have an ambitious plan for industry action in 2020 and we are looking for passionate, creative and hardworking officials to help us deliver the plan.

We are seeking a communications specialist with a digital and creative edge to publicise and promote the Union’s national campaigns and activities.

Based in our Sydney CBD office, your tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Deputising for the Communications Director in managing tasks and roles in the communications team
  • Developing integrated online and offline communications in support of TWU campaigns and workplace organising
  • Implementing the communications plan for 2020, including project management of key activities
  • Working with campaign teams and branches to develop, write and produce literature and other required materials
  • Overseeing the TWU national office online activities including social media
  • Managing CRM and CMS systems
  • Coordinating National Office events and functions
  • Assist in the research and compilation of reports and documents
  • Support media activities as required including monitoring media and identifying potential media opportunities
  • Work in a collegiate manner within the Communications team and across other teams in the Union

Your skills will include:

  • Self-starter with proven ability to work effectively and with limited supervision, as part of a small and dedicated communications team
  • The ability to organise workload and manage competing deadlines
  • Experience with planning, organising and executing large-scale project and events
  • An understanding and preferably experience managing CRM systems and digital campaigns
  • Technical knowledge of online infrastructure
  • An understanding and preferably experience working with digital media, including social media and website management
  • An ability to develop and implement creative and successful events and campaigns
  • A flair for digital and print design, preferably with a knowledge of the Adobe suite
  • A demonstrated understanding of the Australian political landscape
  • Experience in working in related organisations or within the labour movement is desired but not essential
