The Assembly is the national council of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA), leading in promoting the Church’s mission both within the Church and in the wider community. Speaking into the public space, the Assembly ensures the UCA has a considered voice in social and national affairs, seeking the flourishing of all people and all creation. Within the Church, the Assembly plays a leading role in telling the story of the Church and bringing people together at a national level.

The Role

Are you a compelling writer and content whiz? Are you looking for a for-purpose organisation where you will lead storytelling of the Uniting Church and its National Assembly? Collaborating with a small but dynamic communications team, you’ll identify, develop, and curate content from across the Assembly and wider UCA that reflects UCA values and identity and aligns with the Assembly brand.

You will be executing engaging and innovative communications for Assembly channels, including delivering a national newsletter and managing social media platforms. Contribute to a new communications strategy at an exciting time of strategic review.

This role is for four days per week (0.8).

What you will be doing (Key responsibilities)

  • Identifying, crafting, and curating compelling content for key Assembly communication channels, including a national eDM, social media platforms, and web.
  • Assisting with written and other communications that support the Assembly’s public voice and advocacy.
  • Assisting with compiling and proofing resources and communications related to Assembly events or initiatives.
  • Develop metrics to analyse the effectiveness of Assembly communications and make recommendations based on actionable insights.
  • Graphic design including developing social media assets and fliers.
  • Uploading content to and making edits to the Assembly website.
  • Identify potential content creation tools to streamline communications and improve efficiency.
  • Some photography and assistance with video production where required.

What you will need

  • Undergraduate degree in Media, Communications, Digital Media, and/or another relevant discipline, or proven experience in a similar role.
  • A strong understanding of eDM tools such as Mailchimp.
  • A strong understanding of the social media landscape and proven capacity to write for social media.
  • Mid-weight graphic design skills (eg Canva) or proven capacity to create compelling visual content.
  • A current and valid Working with Children Check and National Police Records Clearance.

Highly Regarded

  • Understanding of and/or experience working within the Uniting Church in Australia.

  • You have great communication and interpersonal skills including the confidence to approach and deal with sensitive issues and relationships.
  • You have high computer literacy skills.
  • You can achieve challenging outcomes, successfully managing competing priorities with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
