About the role 

As the Coordinator, Indigenous Student Engagement, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and deliver programs that empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to succeed. You’ll work closely with internal teams, student groups, and community organisations to strengthen Indigenous student belonging, engagement, and achievement. 

Your role will focus on: 

• Creating and delivering initiatives that support Indigenous students’ transition, engagement, and success at university. 

• Building strong relationships with key Indigenous organisations, community groups, and university partners to enhance student experiences. 

• Organising events, mentoring programs, and activities that connect Indigenous students with each other and the wider university community. 

• Providing practical support and guidance to students, ensuring they have access to resources, opportunities, and networks.

You’re someone who enjoys working with people and making a difference in their lives. You understand the challenges and opportunities facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment. Your strong communication and relationship-building skills will help you connect with students, staff, and community partners, while your ability to manage projects will ensure Indigenous programs run smoothly and effectively. 

You’ll bring: 

• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a professional or voluntary capacity. 

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with students, families, Elders, and community organisations. 

• The ability to develop, deliver, and coordinate student support initiatives. 

• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Support for Indigenous staff   

• Cultural leave:  Indigenous staff members are entitled to up to five days non-cumulative paid leave per calendar year for the purpose of attending NAIDOC, community, cultural and ceremonial activities.
