UNIQ You is an exciting not-for-profit operating from Brisbane, QLD, committed to significantly increasing the number of high school girls considering and pursuing pathways into industries currently under-represented by women such as tech, utilities, aviation and more.

Led by a passionate and established change-maker CEO (Executive Director) and supported by an outstanding C-Suite-level team of non-executive Company Directors, UNIQ You has raised close to $500,000 in its first year of QLD-based development and has a 3-year national expansion plan set squarely in its focus.

About the Board

The UNIQ You Board is responsible for establishing UNIQ You’s purpose, values and setting the strategic direction as the basis for further planning, e.g., annual, and longer- term planning. It determines the appropriate culture for UNIQ You and models behaviours that both reflect and promote the desired culture.

It also establishes governance policies that provide the framework for the management of UNIQ You’s financial, human resource, and asset management, and ensures that internal processes and procedures are designed to provide effective controls that serve as the basis for reporting to the Board as required.

The Board monitors management and organisation performance against Board-established criteria. The Board also identifies and monitors the management of organisational risks and ensures that the organisation complies with all internal and externally imposed compliance requirements.

The role of a non-executive director at UNIQ You

  • Contribute to strategic direction to UNIQ You and decide upon the organisation’s strategies and objectives in conjunction with the CEO;
  • Monitor the strategic direction of UNIQ You, and the attainment of its strategies and objectives in conjunction with executive;
  • Monitor the operational and financial position and performance of UNIQ You generally;
  • Assure a prudential and ethical base to the conduct and activities of UNIQ You having regard to the relevant interests of its stakeholders;
  • Assure the principal risks faced by UNIQ You are identified and managed;
  • Ensure that UNIQ You’s affairs are conducted with transparency and accountability;

Competencies, Attributes, Qualifications

Specifically, we are seeking to fill Director Positions with the following expertise:

  • Federal-level government relations
  • Secondary school education (system and practices)
  • Not-for-profit (non-DRG status)

Other mandatory criteria includes:

  • Demonstrated passion for or involvement in gender diversity and inclusion activities
  • Minimum of 3 years’ board director experience

Highly desirable criteria includes:

  • Working Knowledge and lived experience of industry sectors that are male dominated
  • Leadership and deep knowledge in intersectional Gender Equality and Equity theory and practice
  • Experience in Vocational Education and Training, Skills Development and Skills Utilisation policy and practice

Time Commitment Required:

The UNIQ You Board meets once every 6 weeks for approximately 90 mins, and attendance at these meetings is required. In addition to this, Directors may be asked/invited to participate in board sub committees. Board subcommittees meet every 1 to 2 months depending upon the committee and its work program.

In addition to participation in Board meetings and Sub Committees, Directors may be asked to contribute an additional 2 to 4 hours per month to support the work of the Board and to attend UNIQ You events where possible.
