About the Opportunity

We’re seeking a passionate Counsellor to provide individual, couple, and family counselling to support families and deliver therapy across a range of Uniting’s counselling programs.

This permanent part-time role offers 42 hours per fortnight and is based in Newcastle.

Uniting Counselling and Mediation is highly regarded for its quality services and strong connections with Family Law stakeholders. This role involves working with diverse clients across our counselling programs (individuals, couples and post-separation).

About you in the role

  • Deliver high-quality therapy to individuals, couples, and families to repair and strengthen relationships.
  • Provide child consultations using child-inclusive practices for families navigating separation or divorce, including involuntary and court-ordered cases.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners, to provide holistic family therapy.
  • Work with clients experiencing trauma, high conflict and complex challenges, including those referred by courts.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Proven experience providing therapy, including with individuals, couples, and families.
  • Strong ability to manage high-conflict individuals, couples, and families.
  • Experience addressing issues of violence and an understanding of child protection.
  • Competence with program targets and client management systems.

Desirable

  • Membership eligibility with professional bodies (e.g., AASW, APS, PACFA).
  • Postgraduate training in individual, couple, or family therapy.
  • Experience working within a Family Law context.
