We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead the development of a research program as part of the recently launched Open Source Institute (OpenSI) partnership between UC, NetApp and the ACT Government. NetApp is a global company specialising in supporting, developing, and managing advanced open-source technologies and we are proud to be partnering in co-funding this position. NetApp has over 100 open-source technology engineers and specialists located on the UC Campus. In combination with around 40 academics in the School of Information Technology and Systems, this role offers an exceptional opportunity to foster an industry-led collaborative research program with UC academics under the umbrella of OpenSI.

The primary focus of this position’s research projects is collaborating to advance open-source technologies with particular emphasis on emerging capabilities such as cyber security, big-data solutions, and next-generation artificial intelligence and machine learning.

As a Research Chair in Open Sources Technologies, you will have a wide range of responsibilities in leading and shaping the research program for OpenSI. This role is at the forefront of developing and leading an innovative research program in open-source technologies. The role involves driving the program’s direction, setting research goals, and ensuring exceptional research performance.

A key responsibility associated with the role is to actively seek research funding through competitive grant schemes to support the research program of OpenSI ensuring the Institute’s sustainability and growth. In promoting collaboration between NetApp, UC and other relevant industry partners, you will be fostering relationships, inspiring, guiding, and creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and impactful outcomes in the field of open-source technologies. By assuming these responsibilities, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of open-source technologies research, foster collaboration between academia and industry, and make a lasting impact on the academic community.

To be considered for this position, it is a requirement to have a Doctoral level qualification relevant to software engineering or related area. Also required are a track record of internationally recognised research publications, higher degree research student supervision, demonstrated industry engagement experience and success in securing competitive grant funding.
