<h3><strong>About the role</strong></h3>
<p>As the Human Resources (HR) Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day human resources processes for both UMSU staff and elected student representatives. This will include end to end oversight of recruitment, onboarding, induction and contracts, as well as offboarding.</p>
<p>Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will work strategically and collaborate closely with UMSU departments to develop and review HR policies, ensuring you are relevant, up-to-date, safe, and aligned with organisational objectives</p>
<p>The HR Manager will manage workplace relations matters impacting staff, student representatives and volunteers with expertise and a person-centred approach.</p>
<h3><strong>Core responsibilities of your role include:</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Provide operational advice, support and coaching to UMSU on people-related issues, fostering an organisational culture that promotes staff achievements, attraction, retention, leadership and culture enhancement</li>
<li>Manage casework in relation to interpersonal issues related to UMSU staff and student representatives, including Committee members, with a person-centred approach, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation</li>
<li>Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures and frameworks across the organisation</li>
<li>Partner with managers to assist with recruitment, onboarding, induction, probation, employee development, performance management and disciplinary processes</li>
<li>Prepare contracts and provide HR support for payroll</li>
<li>In partnership with Divisional Managers and supervisors, oversee and monitor selection and recruitment policies and procedures for all UMSU staff;</li>
<li>Manage Occupational Health and Safety for the organisation including the OHS committee, risk assessments of hazards, training, first aid kits and ensuring compliance with requirements and responsibilities</li>
</ul>
<h3><strong>Your Expertise (Need to Have)</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Relevant qualifications and experience, including:
<ul>
<li>Postgraduate qualifications and extensive human resources management experience; or</li>
<li>Higher education qualifications in human resources, industrial relations or law, extensive experience and proven HR management expertise; or</li>
<li>An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or relevant higher education/training</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Experience in the case management of complaints and grievances, including a strong understanding ethical and legal responsibilities, the ability to keep accurate records, and adopt a person-centred approach</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of statutory and award obligations of employers, particularly in relation to employment law, workplace health and safety, industrial and workplace related legislation and the organisations&rsquo; positive duty</li>
<li>Experience working in a complex environment like the public higher education sector and/or a for-purpose organisation, a union or membership-based organisation</li>
<li>Passion for working with young people in an educational environment, and commitment to principles of student unionism;</li>
<li>A valid employee Working with Children Check</li>
</ul>
<h3><strong>Bonus Points (Nice to Have)</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Strong experience with HR and rostering systems, such as Workday or Time Target;</li>
<li>Great sense of humour.</li>
