Reporting to the Director of the Gadigal Centre, the Learning Success Advisor collaborates closely with staff across the Gadigal Centre, the Learning Hub, faculties, schools, and the library to develop specific integrated and embedded learning programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. They also have a key role in developing and evaluating resources for learning skills programs, providing group and individual learning skills sessions, and contributing to the development and delivery of peer-learning initiatives and resources.

This role is integral to creating and nurturing a culturally supportive learning environment that empowers Indigenous learners, facilitates their academic progression, and strengthens their academic and research skills.

The successful candidate will be a pivotal academic skills leader, driving the strategic direction of academic skills development within the Gadigal Centre. This role plays a crucial part in Sydney University's strategic commitment to improving the learning environment and experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Working collaboratively across the Gadigal Centre and with the Learning Hub, faculties, schools and library to develop specific integrated and embedded programs
  • Designing and delivering student-centred facilitated learning support programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Providing group and individual learning skills sessions to students
  • Creating a coordinated calendar of learning support programs and events
  • Advising students on personalised learning plans, directing students to relevant learning support resources, monitoring student engagement and administering online diagnostic tools

About you

  • Degree qualifications and/or relevant experience in academic language and learning
  • Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teams essential
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating language and learning support initiatives within the higher education or knowledge sector
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of effective educational practice in the post-entry, higher education space
  • Strong collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work in a collegial manner
  • Strong cultural competence and experience in working within a diverse learning landscape
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to prepare and deliver training to students, peer-facilitators, academic and professional staff.
