The School of Psychology is welcoming applications for a Peer Support Worker, for the South Western Sydney GambleAware Region.
The Peer Support Workers (PSW) work alongside clinicians and are an integral part of the GambleAware clinical team, The primary responsibility of the PSW will be to engage and support clients, their families and loved ones, who are experiencing gambling harm. The PSW will use their own lived experience and relevant training to provide support, education, advocacy and guidance to raise awareness of the service and of harm minimisation strategies within our regions. The PSW will contribute to care planning and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for clients and may support clients at various stages of their recovery, including those who are considering initial engagement into receiving support, as well as the provision of aftercare and monitoring post-treatment.
The PSW will also provide community engagement activities and presentations across the partnership and attend interagency meetings. They will contribute to further development of best practice by providing an avenue for facilitation and feedback between service staff and clients, as well as between the service and the community we serve.
This role does not require the incumbent to disclose details about their past history with gambling, and the role is supported by a supervising clinician, training and a State-wide network of peer workers. This role does not require you to enter gambling venues.
