The UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) leads UNSW’s efforts to make a positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice, and driving engagement activities which enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.

The Diversity & Inclusion Officer supports a range of diversity and inclusion initiatives across the university, enabling initiatives that support gender equity, accessibility, campus and workplace culture, LGBTQIA+ recognition and support, cultural diversity and anti-racism, and workplace flexibility. The role works is focused on student and staff initiatives that support gender equity, disability inclusion and accessibility, campus and workplace culture, LGBTQIA+ recognition and support, cultural diversity and anti-racism, and workplace flexibility.

This role reports to the Manager, Diversity and Inclusion and has no direct reports. This is a 9-month parental leave contract until January 2026.

Main overall responsibilities Summary

  • Support the project management and coordination of diversity and inclusion initiatives and projects, including strategy implementation and reporting, training and resource development, event planning, and stakeholder engagement
  • Provide support to action and complete workplace accreditation frameworks such as the annual Workplace Gender Equality Agency submission (WGEA) and Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) by compiling and synthesising data relevant to submission requirements and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure comprehensive submissions
  • Support the development and delivery of diversity and inclusion training and associated communications, educational assets and resources
  • Co-ordinate contributions to reviews of relevant policy and procedures to ensure alignment with UNSW’s commitment to and enactment of diversity and inclusion principles
  • Act as secretariat to select working groups and assist with data collection for reporting and evaluation requirements
  • Co-ordinate and triage relevant inquiries and support their resolution through liaison and partnership with staff at the university

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values, who is highly organised and who comes equipped with:

  • Previous experience in the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity space, working on award submissions and various projects and delivering training across teams
  • Experience working on multiple projects, with the ability to deal with multiple tasks, establishing priorities and keeping people on track
  • Previous experience working in a large and complex organisation and dealing with multiple stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, business hours. The team works on a hybrid basis.
