About the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health:

The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (the Centre) is a new major initiative supported by the Australian Government, Department of Health and Aged Care, commencing in 2023.

The Centre is led by UNSW Sydney (Medicine and Health) together with a consortium comprising The New South Wales Council for Intellectual Disability, Down Syndrome Australia, Queenslanders with Disability Network, First Peoples Disability Network (Australia), Centre for Disability Studies, Mater Intellectual Disability and Autism Service and Mater Misericordiae, University of Melbourne, and Telethon Kids Institute.

A further 20 health and disability sector partners and 36 collaborating organisations are also involved. The Centre’s purpose is to improve the health of people with intellectual disability. The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health will be based at UNSW Medicine and Health, UNSW Sydney.

Establishing the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health is a vital step in improving the health of people with intellectual disability. The Centre will bring together experts, resources, and research on intellectual disability healthcare.

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Project Officer, you will play a key role in supporting education and workforce capacity building projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of intellectual disability health. The team is based at the National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health (National Centre). This team aims to equip people to meet the health care needs of people with intellectual and developmental disability.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to projects and research in two key areas within the National Centre. One includes the development of a new Knowledge Exchange Hub. The other is developing training and education materials for health and disability professionals.

Other activities may include contributing to e-learning, digital resources, and knowledge translation activities. You will work in a project team that includes people with lived experience of intellectual disability and other researchers. You will provide technical and project support to senior staff in activities associated with workforce and capacity building projects.

The role reports to the Project Manager and has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

• Honours degree or equivalent in Health, Allied Health, Psychology, Disability Studies, Computer Science or other relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
• Knowledge, experience and understanding of the health care needs of marginalised populations, including people with intellectual disability and developmental disability. Experience working with members of marginalised populations (e.g., through co-design or clinically) will be highly regarded.
• Project experience, with an understanding of the project life cycle and development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
• Knowledge of or experience with the web design and development process will be highly regarded.
• Experience developing education resources and/or training materials.
• Experience in planning and conducting user testing and/or consultations with a range of stakeholders.
• Experience with research protocols and planning involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones is desirable.
• Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office applications, statistical programs and referencing software.
• Demonstrated superior interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail, including for people with communication impairment, to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
• Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
