UQ Residences - Student Adviser (St Lucia & Gatton)

The University of Queensland

About This Opportunity

Are you a passionate and enthusiastic social worker or human services professional who is looking for an exciting opportunity to provide direct support to students and shape the culture of the new accommodation precinct at UQ? Do you have experience in assessing needs, developing support plans, and creating workshops and resources?

The primary purpose of this position is to provide students with assistance and support through all aspects of student life. This includes advice on transitioning to university, financial assistance, diversity, disability, inclusion and health and wellbeing related issues.

No two days will look the same, as you meet with residents in individual appointments, attend planning meetings, deliver training and workshops, respond to urgent and time sensitive situations, and help us to design and implement new processes to maximise the student experience.

This role will be part of the team that supports young international students through a guardianship program whilst they are under 18, specifically ensuring their safety, support, and welfare whilst away from their usual support.

The position will work as part of a larger team within Student Services, who will present services across the University’s campuses, and work closely with other key providers including Student Counselling, the Libraries and Faculties.

This is a rewarding role for someone with excellent communication skills, who wants to contribute to our vision to create a truly unique residential environment, with an emphasis on best-practise student care and wellbeing.

This role is a full-time position working across the residential locations in St Lucia and Gatton. We anticipate the role will be split 2 days at Gatton, 3 days at St Lucia each week when semesters are in session. Reasonable travel costs to/from Gatton may be reimbursed for the successful candidate if required.

  • Providing support through individual consultations to UQ Residences students on a range of concerns related to transition, wellbeing, study, and adjustment to living independently
  • Supporting students with a disability, illness or injury through the delivery of one-to-one appointments, including the creation of appropriate student access plans and examination adjustments

  • Work with colleagues across the institution and in the community as required in support of the student needs identified
  • Provide support to students registered as part of our U18 International Student Supervision Program and report on adherence to curfews, house rules and legislative requirements.
  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor
