About the role

The Cultural Mentoring program strengthens our children and young people's connection to culture. We know that the key for a strong future for young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people is to know where they come from, who they are and to be proud to say they are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The program prioritises working with young people who are involved with Child Protection.

Reporting to the Senior Program Manager you will provide culturally respectful support to clients to provide them with the opportunity to connect with their culture and community.

About You

  • Growing knowledge and/or lived experience with an understanding of Child Protection and out of home care system.
  • Knowledge of the issues faced by children and young people in care / leaving care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally respectful and competent manner, with young people, their families and communities, to ensure that cultural connections are fostered and maintained.
  • Sound administration skills, including the ability to record case notes, maintain files, use computer databases.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a certificate in community services (or working towards).
  • Requirements: Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
