The Education Support Worker plays a key role by providing tailored one-on-one support for at least six months, guiding schools on students’ learning needs, ensuring a culturally safe environment, and offering in-home support to reinforce learning.
The role focuses on supporting Aboriginal children’s educational engagement and success by assessing program referrals, developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Koorie Education Learning Plan (KELP), and providing weekly one-on-one academic support. It involves collaborating with schools, teachers, and therapeutic clinicians to create culturally safe learning environments and address trauma-informed educational needs. The position also includes sourcing culturally relevant teaching materials, assisting VACCA staff with educational issues, supporting parents and foster carers, overseeing the Books in Homes Program, and organising cultural activities. Additionally, the role contributes to program evaluation and reporting to meet funding requirements.
