The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marked a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrated its 50-year of providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, allied health and social services for our community.

About the Opportunity

The position is responsible for the provision of General Practitioner services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and families as part of a multi-disciplinary team of medical and health staff, within the operational framework of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander community-controlled Health Service.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services to clients during hours of operation of the service, in keeping with accepted best practice standards.
  • Ensure that clinical care is in line with national ethical, legal, and clinical standards of general practice care, as well as with endorsed protocols and guidelines for delivery of care across the South Morang clinic.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of high-quality information in electronic record systems. Utilise patient information and recall systems to support individual client care and identify population health needs and gaps in service delivery.
  • Participate in the implementation and ongoing review and revision of a comprehensive clinical governance framework for the organization.
  • Ensure maintenance of own professional development including fulfillment of triennium PD requirements for upkeep of Vocational Registration.
  • Encourage cross-functional collaboration to achieve the best outcome for VAHS.
  • Maximize Medicare Billings / claims through effective and timely Clinic patient records processes.
  • Oversee the delivery of comprehensive preventive health assessments for clients across the age spectrum and provide leadership for the multidisciplinary team in delivery of coordinate care planning for clients with complex chronic care needs.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum 5 years General Practitioner experience with Vocational Registration (FRACGP, FACRRM or equivalent)
  • Current Medical Indemnity Insurance
  • Current Medicare Provider and prescriber numbers
  • RACGP QI & CPD triennium training and education requirements
