The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marked a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrated its 50-year of providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, allied health and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity

This role will lead the VAHS Aged Care Capacity Building project. It’s primarily focused on providing specialist knowledge and expertise of the Aged Care system, governance and legislative requirements, associated with the new Act, to engage internal and external stakeholders to understand the need for and development of localised systems and processes that enable VAHS to deliver activities as a registered Aged Care provider.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee strategic and operational delivery of VAHS Aged Care Capacity Building project to ensure VAHS is able to provide culturally safe Aged Care services
  • Engage staff at all VAHS sites to understand the interface with older Aboriginal people and support change management approaches, including with the VAHS Executive Management Team and Board
  • Ensure all Aged care Capacity Building project deliverables and milestones are met and delivered to high standard
  • Map existing VAHS Aged Care activities and lead alignment with new service delivery, legislative, governance and workforce requirements
  • Consult with external stakeholders and community members to inform VAHS suite of Aged Care services to be delivered
  • Ensure VAHS is accredited and suitability qualified to deliver suite of services for older people in our community
  • Provide strategic advice and written documentation on Aged Care to the VAHS Leadership team, CEO and Board

Prerequisites

  • Qualifications in Social Work, Health, Business or related fields and/or minimum three years’ experience working in community health or Aboriginal Community Control
  • Victorian working with children’s check
  • Willing to undergo a National Police Check
  • Victorian Drivers Licence
