Role purpose

We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual who has exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) and a talent for educating members of the public about Assisted Reproductive Technologies and their regulation. The ideal candidate will have experience in the fertility industry, public education and/or media and communications.

The Health Education and Promotion Coordinator leads the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the VARTA public education projects.

Reporting to the Manager of Media and Communications, the coordinator works alongside other VARTA team members with expertise in fertility and fertility treatment; donor conception; strategy; research; media and communications; and social media.

Responsibilities include:

  • Communicating VARTA's regulatory activities to the public.
  • Engaging with VARTA stakeholders.
  • Planning education activities and events.
  • Media monitoring and report writing.
  • Coordinating and updating the VARTA website: This includes generating and reporting on website analytics.
  • Creating resources for specific audiences, including web-based content, written, audio and video materials.
  • Coordinating production of the VARTA annual report including collating and reviewing data and producing explanatory tables.
  • Representing VARTA at meetings, conferences and other events.

Skills and Experience

  • Preferably a minimum of 3 years’ experience in health promotion, public health, regulation, fertility or fertility treatment services or a related field.
  • Qualification in health education, health promotion or a related field.
  • Strong written communication skills: We are looking for someone who has a way with words, attention to detail, and considerable experience in producing clear, correct and considered materials in various media and drafting reports for funders, senior management and boards.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and sensitivity and maturity surrounding issues to do with infertility, health and regulation.
  • Knowledge of issues related to fertility, infertility and assisted reproductive treatment or experience working in the fertility industry, or in health regulation, is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in leading project planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting, and delivering outcomes within agreed budgets and timeframes.
  • Experience producing quality education and information resources in various media, tailored to the specific needs of the intended audiences.
  • An innovative and creative approach. We are looking for someone who is adaptable, flexible and contributes new ideas is open to alternatives and finds ways to work better and smarter.
  • Competent in analysing research findings and data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: Is able to work proactively in a small team.
  • Highly skilled and confident in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook functions. Experience in website administration in Drupal or similar is desirable. Able to modify web content and generate analytic data. Experience using Mailchimp, Zoom and Canva is desirable.

Salary and conditions

  • This is a 0.8 (FTE), 12-month maternity leave contract.
  • Remuneration will depend on skills and experience.
  • Four weeks’ annual leave, on a pro-rata basis.
  • A hybrid work arrangement can be negotiated.
