Manager - First Nations Health Promotion

Victorian Health Promotion Foundation
  • Impact systems for a healthier, fairer Victoria for First Nations people
  • Newly created role to influence and enable change

VicHealth is the world’s first health promotion foundation, and the first organisation of our kind to utilise a hypothecated tax on tobacco to support independent, long-term, evidence-based health promotion practice and partnerships. We continue to be a global leader, as a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre and a technical partner to UNICEF.

The Manager, First Nations Health Promotion is an exciting, newly created role, and reflects the commitment in our 10 year strategy to the health and wellbeing of First Nations Victorians.

You will develop and nurture strong relationships across VicHealth and with key external stakeholders, including state government, and will also work directly with VicHealth’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partner organisations, and with communities and stakeholders, to effect change in the systems where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Victoria live, work and play.

A key aspect will be ensuring that Strong Young Mob, VicHealth’s governance mechanism with a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partner organisations, transfers decision-making power and resources to community, and builds long-term capacity.

This opportunity has been dedicated to identified applicants under our commitment to deliver better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply as this position is exempt under Section 12(1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).

We understand that it is important for this new role to be well-supported, so VicHealth will provide access to a First Nations Employee Assistance Program (EAP), connection to First Nations professional networks within the Victorian Public Service (VPS) and ongoing training on First Nations cultural safety for all staff.

Unit: Health Promotion Systems

Tenure: Full Time, Fixed Term (to 30 June 2028)

Classification: VicHealth Grade E

Remuneration: $132,061 – $158,751 (plus superannuation)

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Demonstrated track record of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and application of this knowledge in the context of self-determination reform in Victoria
  • Experience planning and delivering programs and investments for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians, communities and organisations
  • Demonstrated understanding of using systems-thinking or a systems approach to addressing complex issues

Demonstrable communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills, with emphasis on developing and maintaining strong external stakeholder relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians, communities, and organisations.
