About the role:

Located within the Health Promotion Systems Group, the Manager, Food Systems serves as a subject matter expert and leader of the Food Systems team, driving programmatic efforts to transform local food systems to be healthy, equitable, and sustainable. This work aligns with the focus on food systems within VicHealth’s new multi-year strategy.

This exciting full-time, ongoing opportunity has a close working relationship with the Executive Manager, Health Promotion Systems and the broader Health Promotion Systems Group, while leading a team of six in the Food Systems team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Enable increased access to healthy, local, and culturally appropriate food for more Victorians, by designing and implementing multi-year investments;
  • Support the food systems sector to become more equitable and collaborative, driving actions that allow for better representation in decision-making roles;
  • Actively embed planetary health principles into programs and policies; and
  • Think strategically, identify approaches and activities, and generate opportunities to influence system change and shape the future, in line with VicHealth priorities, by creating new ideas and attracting diverse partners.

About you:

The successful candidate is expected to develop and nurture excellent relationships across program units and with key external stakeholders, including staff in government departments, agencies and communities. You must be able to provide efficient and effective liaison; maintain relationships with stakeholders; and represent VicHealth through professional, ethical and values-based leadership.

Additional qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary or post graduate qualifications;
  • Public health nutrition qualification;
  • Extensive experience in public health, sport, community or government sectors, to improve food environments and systems at a population level.

Preferred but not essential:

  • Extensive experience in the Victorian food system sector;
  • Strong understanding of food system approaches and theories;
  • Strong understanding of the various actors, stakeholders and programs currently operating to address food system transformation in Victoria.
