This is a full-time position at a HEP 9 classification ($116,669 - $121,384 per annum plus 17% employer superannuation contributions), for a three year fixed term contract period (approximately ending June 2025).

About the role

Victoria University (VU) is seeking an experienced, collaborative and results-driven Manager, VU in the Community to lead delivery of the University's community engagement and outreach program in Greater Western Melbourne. This role supports delivery of the Partnering with Principle strategic driver articulated in VU’s Strategic Plan 2022-28.

This is a key leadership role in the Precincts, Communities and Government Relations department within the External Relations and Partnerships portfolio in VU. You will provide strategic leadership of VU’s place-based activities, working to strengthen collaborative relationships with key industry partners, local councils, community groups and internal stakeholders, with the overarching purpose of creating value for VU’s students or educational, training and research programs and delivering benefits for communities in Melbourne’s western region.

You will be the key relationship manager for VU’s Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Maribyrnong, Brimbank, Hume and Melton City Councils, providing strategic oversight of the annual program of activities and ensuring adherence to good governance practices.

You will enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues from across the University, and linking local government, industry and community partners to the various educational, training and research opportunities VU can provide.

About the person

You will have significant experience in local government or community engagement with demonstrated skills in building strong, strategic relationships that deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.

You will have demonstrated capacity to think strategically and identify opportunities for the delivery of place-based education, training and community development programs that achieve shared priorities and create value for the University.

You will thrive on the opportunity of working collaboratively across higher education, vocational education and research areas of the University, and in partnership with local government, industry and community stakeholders, to broker solutions to local community challenges whilst also creating value for the University.

You will be experienced in leading, managing and coaching a small team, and supporting professional development of team members.

You will be recognised for being inclusive and culturally sensitive, with the ability to present effectively and constructively in external forums.

Duties

An example of duties you may perform will include:

  • Preparing, over sighting, reviewing and reporting on the delivery of an annual program of activities in relation to each of the MOUs with local government partners.
  • Building strong, professional relationships with key local government representatives, community partners and key contacts across the University
  • Leading and managing a small team of professionals, ensuring a supportive and motivating work environment
  • Preparing submissions, presentations, briefing materials and reports on VU in the Community activities as required
  • Preparing and monitoring progress against the VU in the Community annual budget.
