About the role

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a Senior Lawyer committed to delivering outstanding legal services in criminal law and family violence intervention orders. Reporting to the Deputy Managing Lawyer, you will provide duty lawyer services and court advocacy, handle complex casework, and offer strategic legal advice. Additionally, as a senior lawyer, you will provide mentorship, training, and supervision to our junior lawyers, fostering their professional development and leadership potential.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Proven advocacy skills in local courts, specifically in criminal law and family violence intervention orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and train junior lawyers to enhance their legal expertise.
  • Capability to offer strategic legal and policy advice, understanding the contributions of external stakeholders in legal aid services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with diverse clients and stakeholders.
  • A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
