At Trades Hall, the peak body of the union movement in Victoria, we are about changing systems and structures to improve the lives of workers, their families, and their communities. We see change as a process. We know that real, lasting change only comes from united vision, shared commitment, and collective action. We don’t just talk to people who are like us or work with people who agree with us. Rather, we must do the hard, grinding work to bring people in.
We see every union member as a comrade and part of that great struggle. Because no matter the challenge, we know that workers standing together in union are the answer and that workers united will never be defeated.
In 2025 we are recruiting for We Are Union election interns for the Federal election campaign. This is a great paid opportunity for emerging campaigners, community organisers and young worker activists.
The internship will commence on 17 February until 1 week after the 2025 Federal Election.
Through the Victorian Trades Hall Council, you’ll be part of a supportive and fast-paced team, where you will:
The role could see you coaching our groups on campaigns, joining our team onboarding new volunteers, collecting powerful stories, recruiting for our huge phone-banks and moderating our social media.
During an election campaign, we often work irregular hours, which may include night-time phone banks and morning train station events. As such, some flexibility in availability will be required.
The program is based at the Victorian Trades Hall in Melbourne’s CBD. However, some travel may be required into various electorates, for which transport will be provided.
This paid internship will be paid at level 1 ($61,221.64 per annum) of the VTHC classification structure.
If after reading this you're not sure you meet every criteria but have the passion and determination to contribute to positive change for Victorian workers, we encourage you to apply.
The VTHC is committed to a culturally inclusive workplace and encourages women and people from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people to apply. A statement of available adjustments is available on request for people with a disability.
We are union. We stand united as part of a great movement of workers.
Our diversity is our strength. Our solidarity is our power.
We respect and take care of each other.
Prejudice and discrimination - including misogyny, racism, homophobia and all other hatreds - have no place in our movement.
We rise together.
Today and every day we commit ourselves to achieving justice, fairness, equality and dignity for all workers.
Solidarity forever.
