At Trades Hall, the peak body of the union movement in Victoria, we are about changing systems and structures to improve the lives of workers, their families, and their communities. In 2025 we are recruiting for We Are Union election interns for the Federal election campaign. This is a great paid opportunity for emerging campaigners, community organisers and young worker activists.

The internship will commence on 17 February until 1 week after the 2025 Federal Election.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Through the Victorian Trades Hall Council, you’ll be part of a supportive and fast-paced team, where you will:

• Learn from cutting edge campaigning, organising and communications experts
• Support mobilisation tactics and online digital events
• Organise campaign activities including creative campaigning, stunts, community stalls, phone banking, online organising and community events.

The role could see you coaching our groups on campaigns, joining our team onboarding new volunteers, collecting powerful stories, recruiting for our huge phone-banks and moderating our social media.

During an election campaign, we often work irregular hours, which may include night-time phone banks and morning train station events. As such, some flexibility in availability will be required.

The program is based at the Victorian Trades Hall in Melbourne’s CBD. However, some travel may be required into various electorates, for which transport will be provided.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:

• Be passionate about all things campaigning and organising - you use this to fight for worker justice.
• Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Have strong digital and technology skills
• Familiar with technology and have the ability to quickly learn new programs and digital tools
• Have a current driver's licence.

SALARY:

This paid internship will be paid at level 1 ($61,221.64 per annum) of the VTHC classification structure.
