Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is the peak body for unions in Victoria. We are seeking to employ a full-time fixed-term Trainer to work on our Workplaces for Women project to advance gender equality in gender segregated industries.

The Workplace for Women Project runs for 12 months from the start of April 2025.

The Workplaces for Women Project promotes gender equality in gender segregated industries to create workplaces where women are safe, respected, equal and included. The Project will conduct outreach and development of women workers and workplace leaders, develop strategic networks, conduct and publish research, develop resources and cutting edge materials, develop and deliver relevant training to suit a range of audiences.

The Project works with VTHC’s affiliate unions, relevant industry stakeholders, employers, the ACTU and other state-based Trades and Labour Councils.

We are seeking to employ a Trainer who wants to use the power of training to educate and empower workers about their rights and safety at work.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Developing and delivering new training to promote gender equality in gender segregated industries
  • Developing and delivering new training to support women to become advocates for equal workplaces
  • Developing and delivering audience appropriate training including training for women, HSRs, union delegates, managers and supervisors
  • Delivering training packages such as Family Violence as a Workplace Issue and Safe, Respectful Workplaces
  • Contributing to the maintenance of the continuous improvement systems relating to training packages

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, gender equality and trade union principles
  • Have relevant and demonstrated experience in delivering training in an adult learning environment
  • Have a passion for Occupational Health and Safety and have been in a role where OHS was a major responsibility or part of the role, or be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Have a solid, current detailed understanding of relevant industrial laws such as the Fair Work Act, OHS Act, Workplace Gender Equality Act, discrimination law and related legislation
  • A passion for working directly with Health and Safety Reps (HSRs), union officials and the delegates and members who make up our movement
  • A passion for educating working people to empower them
  • Previous experience in union, political or community training, including the application of transformative learning techniques
  • A demonstrated understanding of gender inequality and experience delivering training on gender equality, gendered violence, discrimination and family violence
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and an ability to build rapport with a variety of people from different backgrounds and stakeholders

PREFERRED:

  • Relevant Certificate IV in training, i.e. Cert IV Training and Assessment

This is position is a fixed term, full time position set at Level 7 of our classification structure (approx. $107,000).

The Workplace for Women Project runs for 12 months from the start of April 2025. Victorian Trades Hall has an Enterprise Agreement with a monthly RDO (in recognition of occasional additional hours) and 12% superannuation.

This position is based at Victorian Trades Hall in Carlton.

This position reports to the Assistant Secretary and Secretary through the Training Team Lead. Some irregular hours, regional and interstate travel may be required in this role.
