The WA AIDS Council (WAAC) is a non-government organisation committed to the HIV response in Western Australia. Established in 1985, the Council leads the Western Australian community in the provision of a wide range of services in the prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections and blood-borne viruses, and the treatment and care of people living with HIV and AIDS.

We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Coordinator for our Freedom Centre operations based at Brisbane Street, Perth.

You will ideally hold a tertiary qualification in Youth Work, and demonstrated experience in overseeing and implementing a peer-based model supporting young LGBTIQ+ young people.

How to apply?

We welcome applications from those who can clearly demonstrate and evidence achievement of the essential outcomes on The H Factor and selection criteria described below.

  • Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, or in a closely related area.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience coordinating and leading youth services for young LGBTQI+ people. 
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing and implementing a peer-based model supporting LGBTIQ+ young people.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of managing teams and volunteers.
  • Experience in coordinating projects and/or services, including planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience in building and maintaining strategic relationships with community groups and agencies.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Training and demonstrated experience in suicide intervention and other mental health helping skills.
  • Ability to competently use Microsoft (MS) suite, particularly MS Excel, and conduct data analysis and reporting.
  • Current Western Australian Driver’s Licence and ability to drive fleet vehicles,
  • Working with Children Check and a National Police Clearance (PC within the last 6 months).
