About Us

Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and was established in 1998.

WTOAC is governed by a Board of Directors of Traditional Owners. Each Director represents a Family Group of the Wadawurrung People. Its role is to protect and advance the aspirations of Wadawurrung People by managing their cultural heritage rights and interests, as well as supporting them in the achievement of the goals and aspirations as outlined in the Wadawurrung Country Plan.

About the role

Under the broad direction of the CEO the primary objective of this role is to lead and manage WTOAC Caring for Country pillar. This will support the Caring for Country Project Officers, Natural Resource Management (NRM) and Wiyn Murrup (fire spirit) teams. Strong communication and negotiation skills will be required as well as maintain and establishing excellent partnerships between stakeholders.

This is an executive role within WTOAC and you will participate in management and leadership decision making and activities such as strategic forums, leadership and staff meetings as directed by the CEO to meet WTOAC organisational requirements.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Caring for Country.
  • Substantial experience and record of achievements at a senior management level in the not-for-profit sector, and significant experience in managing, leading, supporting, and mentoring employees.
  • Ability to draft reports and documents for Caring for Country, reporting to the CEO and board as required.
  • Excellent customer relations and communication skills and an ability to connect with external stakeholders on a business and cultural level.
  • Ability to support the implementation of systems and processes, and to comply with all safety regulations and WTOAC policy and procedures.
  • Experience in use of computer software such as Microsoft Office, GIS Software, internet and email, publisher and project management databases.
  • Driver's license (manual).
  • Genuine appreciation and respect for Aboriginal people and their culture.
  • Previous experience working with indigenous people and particularly indigenous employment (Desirable).
