Domestic Violence Case Manager - Helping Children Heal

Women's and Girls' Emergency Centre

ABOUT US

Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community. We work on the lands of the Gadigal, Wangal and Dharug people of the Eora Nation.

Every night, we support 200 women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence, and systemic disadvantage. Equally we seek to address the underlying causes of gender-based violence through primary prevention activities with communities and private and public entities that want to be a part of the global movement to end gender-based violence in a generation.

THE ROLE

The Helping Children Heal (HCH) program is a pilot project funded by DSS. The project provides trauma-informed recovery services to children (aged 6-12 years) and their families, who have been exposed to domestic or family violence. The program aims to improve social, emotional, and educational outcomes for children, and restore and strengthen mother and child relationships.

The DV Case Manager seeks to address gaps in trauma-informed care for parents, children and young people, creating additional opportunities to reduce harm and increase emotional support and engagement with education.

Based at WAGEC’s Community Hub in Burwood, the role will support women and children with case plans, risk assessments and referrals to allied health and therapeutic services, and provide support with emergency accommodation, DV assistance and connections with community groups. This is a full-time role with a 2-year contract.

The core responsibilities of this role are:

  • Engage with families and deliver case management services, respecting children as clients in their own right
  • Work collaboratively with families, case managers and support networks to assess family situations and respond to child safety concerns
  • Work with families to develop case plans, including individual case plans for children, and facilitate connections with emergency accommodation support
  • Connect children to allied health/therapeutic services and support families to connect with the 'Women in Touch' community group.
  • Offer support for activities at WAGEC's Community Hub.

ABOUT YOU

  • You’ll have 3-4 years’ frontline experience offering services in response to domestic and family violence, health, disability support and/or other related complex needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of safety and well-being practices when working with children and young people in complex and high-risk situations.
  • You're able to work in a strengths-based, trauma-informed way with children, young people and their families
  • We’d love to hear from people who are multi-lingual, and from those with experience working with the NDIS or allied health services.
