ABOUT THE ROLE

Trauma Informed Counsellors at WWHC are pivotal across intake, case allocation, crisis support and ongoing counselling. Our team uses strength-based approaches and feminist values to inform their practices and empower clients. The Counselling team report to the Clinical Services Director and are responsible for providing support to women in a trauma informed framework who are experiencing personal issues or crisis.

The successful candidate will be critical in implementing our ‘model of service’ for all client presentations as well as supporting the establishment of outreach clinics across the Riverina. There is opportunity to focus on long term counselling with clients or to have diversity in the role assisting with intake, case management, outreach and short-term counselling interventions. This is an opportunity to be part of an innovative organisation as WWHC looks at how it can best service the women of the Riverina in the forward five years.

You will be part of a small but flexible team of women who work collaboratively to deliver client services, primary prevention projects and advocate for women’s issues. The role can be flexible to meet the needs of the right candidate and may involve some after 5pm and weekend work as negotiated. Occasional day travel may be required. We are open to both part-time and full-time applicants.

THE RIGHT APPLICANT WILL:

  • Provide counselling face to face, over the telephone or online
  • Work with women over 16 with complex trauma histories
  • Make referrals to sister organisations and NSW Health Facilities
  • Take appropriate client case notes, maintaining confidential records
  • Build a relationship of trust and respect with clients
  • Liaise with health professionals around better managing client needs

The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related field and/or professional counselling qualifications. They must have and maintain registration with a relevant professional body (ACA, APA or other). Significant experience in working with clients in a trauma informed and women led approach will be advantageous.
