Volunteer Recruitment Officer

Women and Mentoring - WAM Limited

The WAM values are Integrity – Respect – Belonging – Empowerment – Social Justice

Women and Mentoring (WAM) is a community-based, early intervention program supporting women and non-binary people in contact with the criminal legal system. We match participants with trained volunteer mentors who provide practical, trauma-informed, and strengths-based support.

As demand for our work increases, we need a proactive, engaging communicator to attract and recruit new volunteer mentors. Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting women and non-binary people in contact with the criminal legal system.

We’re looking for a Volunteer Recruitment Officer who can build strong community relationships, promote the program, and be the first point of contact for enquiries—ensuring we reach and engage diverse mentors across Victoria.

What You’ll Do:

  • Expand outreach - identify new audiences and build connections with universities, community groups, and corporate partners to grow our mentor base.
  • Be the first point of contact - respond promptly to mentor enquiries, providing clear and engaging information.
  • Promote WAM's program - develop and deliver presentations, attend events, and use innovative approaches to attract potential mentors.
  • Support the recruitment process - coordinate mentor information sessions, manage applications, and ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Enhance visibility - contribute to marketing efforts, helping to craft messaging that resonates with potential mentors.

This is a part-time (0.6 FTE), fixed-term (2-year) contract, based at our Melbourne QV office with some work in the community. The role is classified under the SCHCADS Award Level 4, Pay Point 1.

Who we’re looking for

  • A strong communicator who is confident engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Experience in recruitment, community engagement, volunteer coordination, or similar roles.
  • A proactive approach to relationship-building and networking.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage enquiries and follow up effectively.
  • A passion for social justice, mentoring, and community connection.
  • Knowledge of justice, gender, or social support sectors (desirable but not essential).

A Victorian Driver’s License and occasional access to a vehicle are desirable. A Police Check and Working with Children Check are required.

At WAM, lived experience is valued—if this role speaks to you, but your CV doesn’t match perfectly, we encourage you to apply! A criminal history does not automatically exclude you, but some offences may affect eligibility.

Why join WAM?

  • Be part of an innovative, growing program making real change in women’s lives.
  • Work within a supportive, passionate team committed to empowerment and justice reinvestment.
  • Benefit from flexible work arrangements, professional development, and a role with real impact.

Applications close by the closing date and it is anticipated that interviews will be conducted on Thursday 1st May.

A position description is attached.
