Young Women's Program Coordinator

Women and Mentoring - WAM Limited

The WAM values are Integrity – Respect – Belonging – Empowerment – Social Justice

Women and Mentoring (WAM) is a community-based, early intervention program supporting women and non-binary people in contact with the criminal legal system. We match participants with trained volunteer mentors who provide practical, trauma-informed, and strengths-based support.

With new funding, we are expanding our Young Women’s Program (YWP), which provides tailored mentoring for young women at risk of justice system involvement. We are seeking a Young Women’s Program Coordinator to lead this expansion in Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, and neighbouring communities of Dandenong, Casey and Kingston.

About the role

As the Young Women’s Program Coordinator, you will:

  • Lead program expansion - build partnerships and increase engagement in newly serviced areas.
  • Support young women - be the first point of contact for participants and referral agencies, conducting intake assessments and ensuring appropriate support.
  • Strengthen volunteer mentoring - facilitate mentoring relationships, provide supervision, and deliver mentor training.
  • Enhance collaboration - coordinate Secondary Consult Panels, bringing together services to improve outcomes for young women.
  • Monitor impact - contribute to program evaluation and reporting.

This is a part-time (0.8 FTE), fixed-term (2-year) contract, based in Frankston with some work from home and at our QVWC office.

Who we’re looking for:

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who share our commitment to social justice. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualifications and experience in social work, youth work, psychology, criminology, or a related field.
  • Understanding of family violence, mental health, homelessness, and AOD issues.
  • Experience working with young women with complex needs.
  • Strong facilitation skills, particularly in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Ability to build relationships with police, legal professionals, and community services.
  • A trauma-informed, gender-responsive approach to mentoring and service delivery.
  • A Victorian Driver’s License and occasional access to a vehicle are desirable. A Police Check and Working with Children Check are required.

At WAM, lived experience is valued—if this role speaks to you, but your CV doesn’t match perfectly, we encourage you to apply! A criminal history does not automatically exclude you, but some offences may affect eligibility.

Why join WAM?

  • Be part of an innovative, growing program making real change in young women’s lives.
  • Work within a supportive, passionate team committed to empowerment and justice reinvestment.
  • Benefit from flexible work arrangements, professional development, and a rile with real impact.
