We are looking for a Family Support Worker to join our Family Care Support Service program to provide assessment and case management of families and individuals (where there are complex needs including mental health, disability, drug and alcohol and child protection issues) to prevent homelessness, increase self-reliance and build capacity to live independently.

It is a genuine requirement for this position that the successful candidate be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander as per section 50D of the equal opportunity act 1984.

Our ideal applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in community services or other human service discipline
  • Demonstrated understanding of family functioning and its impact on the well- being of children
  • Relevant knowledge of child development and experience addressing children’s challenging and difficult behaviours
  • Sound understanding of Occupational Safety and Health
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and good written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally appropriate and secure manner
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain client confidentiality
  • Proven ability to work as an effective member of a team
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current satisfactory National Police Clearance
  • Current WA Driver’s licence
  • Current First Aid Certificate

The Role

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Liaise with Case Worker, CPFS and family in the support of Family Carers engaged in the Family Care Support Service
  • Provide practical and emotional support to Family Carers, predominantly in the home. The support provided will be in line with case planning and goal setting that will be initially completed by the Case Worker and reviewed with the Family Support workers input. Examples of support include parenting support and education, establishment of routine, rules and boundaries and appropriate discipline. The Family Support Worker will assist Family Carers to build formal and informal supports within the local community
  • Transport children and Family Carers to and from appointments as required
  • Assist the Case Worker with support groups for Family Carers as required
  • Liaise with other agencies in relation to service provision for Family Carers
