Kununurra Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation (KWAC) is a social services organisation helping the Indigenous community of Kununurra and surrounds for over forty years. KWAC runs many social programs helping youth, family and the community.

KWAC requires a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the strategic vision of KWAC is being achieved.

The CEO is responsible for successfully implementing KWAC’s strategic plan, and providing hands-on leadership, direction and oversight across all aspects of the Corporation’s activities, whilst ensuring long term organisational sustainability. The CEO will utilise their strong leadership skills and experience to inspire staff, stakeholders, and the community and advocate for the organisation in pursuit of improving social outcomes for KWAC's membership base and wider community.

Responsibilities of the CEO include:

  • Oversight of the operational and strategic direction of the corporation, ensuring all staff and programs are working towards achieving KWAC’s vision.
  • Liaising with the Chair and Board of Directors and enacting their directives.
  • Ensuring the long-term viability of KWAC and its community programs.
  • Ensuring security of KWAC’s long term goals through stakeholder engagement and management including funding bodies, partner organisations, ACCO’s, government and non-government bodies.
  • Representing KWAC at various regional meetings.

The successful candidate will bring a combination of leadership, cultural sensitivity, strategic vision and a commitment to positive outcomes for the KWAC community.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience in managing significant projects or operations, preferably within an Aboriginal Corporation.
  • Strategic leadership and financial accountability at a large organisational level.
  • High cultural competency and effective communication with Aboriginal communities.
  • Leadership skills and demonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently under the direction of the Board of Directors and collaboratively within the KWAC team.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing and ability to advocate for KWAC.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience working in social enterprise and strong business acumen.
  • Knowledge of the Kununurra and wider Kimberley social services landscape including main stakeholders, programs and strategic direction.
  • Experience in managing government grants, including budget development and management.
  • Experience living and working in remote Aboriginal communities.
