The Financial Controller is the senior finance specialist at Wayside Chapel. This role holds a vital leadership position and will aid Wayside by encouraging financial maturity, formulating sound financial strategies, recommending and implementing proper internal controls and developing financial plans that supports our mission, goals and strategy. The Financial Controller holds a key position in supporting change across Wayside as we redevelop our processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading all financial management and reporting, including the preparation of reports, statements and forecasts and the month and year-end processes
  • Leading the enhancement of Wayside’s internal reporting systems and processes and continuing to develop reporting and analytics capabilities
  • Developing and managing annual budgets in collaboration with department heads, as well as reporting on budget performance and recommending corrective actions
  • Developing processes and reporting to assist the Fundraising team to meet their budgeted targets
  • Providing expert insights and analysis to maximise revenue generating efforts, retail and other income streams
  • Coordinating internal and external audits, ensuring internal controls are followed and compliance with tax law, corporate governance and regulatory requirements
  • Leading the Finance team, providing guidance, coaching and support for professional development
  • Identifying, assessing and providing recommendations for financial risk and insurance coverage.

Core Competencies

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience managing external audits and financial statements
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting standards and principles and demonstrated ability to think strategically, assess financial issues and provide recommendations.
  • Experience in people leadership, especially with coaching a small, dedicated in-house team
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • High level of written, visual and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working within a similar role at an NFP, Church or property environment will be well regarded
  • A willingness to work within the ethos of the Wayside Chapel mission, vision and values.
