About the position
Women’s Health Matters is looking for a Financial Expert sit on the Women’s Health Matters Board.
Women’s Health Matters’ portfolio has grown substantially. The larger footprint brings more opportunity to support complex and strategic financial decisions. This rewarding volunteer position will provide financial expertise to support the organisation to enhance its financial capability. The position entails:
- Participating in board meetings and chairing the Finance Audit and Risk sub-committee.
- Providing expertise on the financial health of the organisation.
- Supporting alignment of the financial positions with the strategic direction of WHM.
- Investment management guidance to grow the funds and expand the organisation’s reach.
- Organisational leadership to strategise and direct the organisation’s financial future.
- An active role in strategic planning and direction and short and long term financial goals.
- Counselling board on financial obligations, investment decisions and existing financial developments.
- Work with the appointed auditors to finalise the annual accounts.
- Guide/support budget planning for the next financial year and prepare and present to the Annual General Meeting the annual financial statements and balance sheet
About Women’s Health Matters
Women’s Health Matters is an independent, non-partisan think tank that works to improve the health and wellbeing of all women in the ACT and surrounding region. We seek to improve access to health information and enhance knowledge and understanding about the causes of health and illness among anyone who identifies as a woman.
We advocate on behalf of all ACT women, especially those experiencing disadvantage and vulnerability. We want women to feel in control of and understand the determinants of their own health and wellbeing.
We do this through health promotion and by providing evidence-based social research, policy development and advocacy services to governments, the corporate sector, policy makers, service providers and peak bodies.
Desirable skills, experience and education
- Experience in financial management such as a Chief Financial Officer or an Accountant
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Certified Practicing Accountant certification
- 5+ years of experience in financial management
- Strong capabilities in strategic budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Competency in financial delegations of a governance board
- Understanding and/or experience in the community sector or working with or for not for profits/non government organisations.
- Skills in strategic direction setting
- Demonstrated ability to act independently and impartially, with a high level of integrity and ethical standards.
- Governance qualification such as Australian Institute of Company Directory (AICD or Governance Institute of Australia).
- Passionate about women’s health
Time required:
- Board Director appointments are for 2 years with the option to re-nominate for 2 additional terms (potentially 6 years in total)
- Board Meetings: 2-3hrs, 6 times per year
- Finance Audit and Risk Committee: 2-3hrs, 3 per year
- Out of Session: No more than 1-2hr per week
