Carrington Health is establishing an exciting new After Hours Mental Health Nurse and Liaison Program in Box Hill. We are seeking experienced Mental Health Nurses to provide brief interventions, immediate support, navigation and reconnection into services and some follow.

The role will work in conjunction with the Mental Health Liaison Coordinator, working closely with designated hospital ED staff to facilitate access to those presenting with non-urgent mental health conditions to the Mental Health Nurse service at the Box Hill After Hours GP Clinic. The role will sit alongside services provided by the GP and build upon the existing referral/redirection protocols and connections. There are a number of positions available, and services provided will be from 6 pm – 11 pm on weekdays and from 2 pm – 7 pm on weekends.

What you will require to be effective in this role

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current psychiatric diagnostic and classification systems and assessment tools
  • Good working knowledge of mental health symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, interventions, and regional mental health and general health providers
  • Knowledge of current psychiatric medications and medication management
  • Demonstrated experience of mental health risk assessment, brief intervention, recovery planning, psycho-education and relapse prevention
  • Experience working within the primary health and/or primary mental health sectors
  • Understanding of the contemporary mental health system landscape and its challenges and a desire to innovate to improve service integrity and access
  • High level of autonomy and professional judgement in decision making and clinical practice
  • Sound understanding of the causes of stigma and barriers faced by those experiencing mental illness
  • Demonstrated ability to work within legislative, ethical, organisational and practice frameworks without the need for close monitoring and high levels of direction

Salary is in accordance with Nurses and Midwifes (Victorian Public Health Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2016-2020. Generous salary packaging and flexible working hours will be offered. The position reports directly to the Manager, Counselling/Mental Health/Youth.
