ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Location: Surry Hills, Sydney (near to Central Station)
  • Work type: Ongoing part time 3 days per week – job share
  • Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer
  • Salary type: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHADS) Social and Community Services Employee Level 6, Pay Point 1. We pay above Award with attractive NFP salary packaging benefits.

Your Purpose

Reporting to the COO, the People & Culture Manager leads and manages all elements of Human Resources for the WCS Hub and also acts as a support for shelters within the WCS Shelter Network.

There are plans to grow the Women’s Community Shelter (WCS) Hub team and Shelter Network in 2025 with a number of housing projects coming to fruition. With these growth plans in mind and our current People and Culture Manager easing into retirement and wishing to work less hours in 2025. We have a job share opportunity available to ensure that the current HR support and assistance still happens efficiently and on time.

Your new role will be part time hours of 3 days per week, with the current incumbent reducing to 2 days per week on a graduated basis to allow time for effective training and handover. WCS will require flexibility as both job share participants will need to increase hours occasionally to cover each other during periods of leave, recruitment drives and other HR matters that need attention.

It is anticipated that each People & Culture Manager will lead various aspects of the role with the current People and Culture Manager focussing on the HR needs of WCS Hub and the new role to focus on the HR needs of the Shelter Network, working closely with the Shelter Manager, Board Directors and HR representatives of each Shelter.

Your key responsibilities will include

You will need to be a true HR generalist, able to bring expertise to broad HR operations, with the focus on recruitment due to growth, onboarding, and supporting line managers with HR expertise, advice and support.

The role is both strategic and operational, advisory and hands-on, aimed at ensuring we recruit, grow, develop, support and retain motivated satisfied people and provide guidance and support to line managers.

  • HR advisory: provide timely and accurate HR advice to line managers. Act as Complaints Officer and Whistleblower protection officer for the Shelter Network. Work collaboratively with external workplace and employment law legal counsel on complex matters.
  • Recruitment and employee lifecycle: End to end recruitment for the Shelter Network and assist with onboarding and employee lifecycle processes. Guide and support line managers through all aspects of the employee lifecycle.
  • HR policy review and development: Review and develop HR policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, consistency, and compliance within the organisation.
  • Employee relations: Serve as a trusted advisor for our people, providing guidance on workplace matters.
  • Compliance: Ensure all HR practices comply with relevant employment laws and regulations; maintain accurate employee files and documentation.

ABOUT YOU

You have the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management with substantial HR experience;
  • Solid generalist HR experience preferably within the NFP/community sector;
  • Sound experience resolving complex and diverse employee relations matters;
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practice people and workplace culture principles;
  • Multi-disciplinary team and people development and management abilities;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of workplace and employment related legislation and regulation, policy and practice;
  • Demonstrated personal integrity and ability to deal with sensitive/confidential issues with discretion;
  • Leadership and change management competencies and capabilities;
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and under limited and ability to be accountable for individual performance in a fast-paced environment whilst working as part of a team;

  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including the Boards of Management, WCS Representatives, staff, clients, local service and community partners, and government agencies;
  • Sound interpersonal skills and proven ability to appreciate, respect and be sensitive towards cultural and social diversity, in order to gain the cooperation of clients, staff, the public and other organisations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directing, plan and prioritise workload and show initiative;
  • Proficient working knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word and Excel and ability to create and design presentations;
  • The right to live and work in Australia;
