About WELA

Do you want to contribute to saving the environment, solving climate change, and taking on the patriarchy?

Women’s Environmental Leadership Australia (WELA) is empowering, supporting, funding and diversifying women’s and gender diverse leadership for our environment and climate, in order to transform Australia’s response to these crises.

Overwhelmingly, our existing political, business and societal leadership has failed to adequately address the climate and environmental crises at hand. It’s time for a leadership change. Put simply, we will not get out of this by relying on the same leadership that got us into it. The evidence is clear - more women in decision making roles equals better environmental outcomes. We need more of it.

Why work with us?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, growing, and passionate team taking on some big challenges - and doing it with a good sense of fun and personal sustainability.

We offer:

  • Flexible working location
  • Work/life balance
  • Supportive culture
  • Capacity to shape the role as it evolves
  • Generous leave provisions
  • Mentoring opportunities

We’re a small and empowering team, with a big vision for change. We work hard, but have a healthy commitment to work/life balance, and enable the flexibility to support this. We support one another to grow, develop, and bring joy and creativity to our work each day.

About the position

The WELA Giving Circle is the only giving circle in Australia dedicated to funding women and gender-diverse led climate and environmental action. Together, we’re building a community for collective giving, and supporting the next wave of emerging climate and environmental leaders.

We’re looking for an experienced change maker with a creative, entrepreneurial spirit, excellent relationship building skills, and a big vision for impact.

You’ll be responsible for nurturing and growing the WELA Giving Circle community and running a granting program to support advocacy campaigns and initiatives for our climate and environment led by women and gender diverse people..

You’ll be responsible for leading the next phase of growth for the Giving Circle, recruiting new members, ensuring ongoing engagement of the membership, and managing the granting process from end to end.

Your responsibilities will extend across partner engagement and relationship management, membership growth and engagement, management of the granting program, communications, and event management.

The role reports to the CEO, and collaborates dynamically with our Communications Manager, Engagement Manager and Events and Communications Producer.

The WELA team embodies a vibrant and caring energy where we know what we’re doing, but we certainly don’t have all the answers. Learning, reflecting, and balancing risks informs our passion and drive.

About you

You’re passionate about our environment, and the important role of women’s leadership in creating a genuinely sustainable future in which people and the planet thrive.

You enjoy working with people and believe strongly in the power of people to create change. You are passionate about activating and engaging communities for our environment and climate. You’re excited about the potential of people to have impact with their giving, and are experienced with creating and managing positive donor relationships. You have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and your interpersonal skills are second to none.

You’re creative, and show initiative in the way you spot opportunities and make things happen. You know how to create engaging events and activities that inspire people with shared values and diverse experiences, including supporters, donors and other stakeholders.

You are an experienced project manager, have a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to good organisation processes for project management and delivery. You don’t mind getting your hands dirty to get things done - from running grant cycle timelines and accountabilities, managing and tracking donor data, through to leading and hosting events. You love collaborating with a small team to get big results.
