About WELA

Do you want to contribute to saving the environment, solving climate change, and taking on the patriarchy?

Women’s Environmental Leadership Australia (WELA) is empowering, supporting, funding and diversifying women’s and gender diverse leadership for our environment and climate, in order to transform Australia’s response to these crises.

Overwhelmingly, our existing political, business and societal leadership has failed to adequately address the climate and environmental crises at hand. It’s time for a leadership change. Put simply, we will not get out of this by relying on the same leadership that got us into it. The evidence is clear - more women in decision making roles equals better environmental outcomes. We need more of it.

Why work with us?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, growing, and passionate team taking on some big challenges - and doing it with a good sense of fun and personal sustainability.

We offer:

  • Flexible working location
  • Work/life balance
  • Supportive culture
  • Capacity to shape the role as it evolves
  • Generous leave provisions
  • Mentoring opportunities

We’re a small and empowering team, with a big vision for change. We work hard, but have a healthy commitment to work/life balance, and enable the flexibility to support this. We support one another to grow, develop, and bring joy and creativity to our work each day.

About the position

In this exciting new role, you will work closely with and support the CEO to develop and deliver WELA’s major donor fundraising priorities.

You’ll play a crucial role in delivering our major donor fundraising strategy from end to end. This includes researching prospective funders, creating proposals and pitches, managing and tracking data and key relationships, and reporting on and acquitting grants. You’ll support the CEO to engage with key stakeholders and funders; be a trusted liaison point for external stakeholders; and support the CEO’s engagement in external engagements and emerging opportunities.

As a collaborative team member, you’ll work closely with all areas of the organisation that connect to fundraising, including Communications, Engagement, the WELA Giving Circle, Advocacy, Operations, and with the Leadership Programs team.

The WELA team embodies a vibrant and caring energy where we know what we’re doing, but we certainly don’t have all the answers. Learning, reflecting, and balancing risks informs our passion and drive.

About you

You’re passionate about our environment, and the important role of women’s leadership in creating a genuinely sustainable future in which people and the planet thrive.

You’re excited about fundraising as a powerful way to build capacity, and to support donors to influence positive action on the issues they’re passionate about. You are an organised, proactive, and self-motivated individual with a strong ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail. With experience in supporting major donor and /or other fundraising activities, you’re able to organise resources, data, timelines, and deliverables to ensure successful execution.

You’re an excellent communicator - personally and professionally, with excellent written skills and an ability to craft a compelling narrative and pitch. Your inter-personal skills are second to none, and you manage important and sensitive relationships and information with integrity and discretion.

Working independently comes naturally to you, and you thrive when taking initiative and managing projects with minimal supervision. You’re a self-starter who communicates clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, ensuring that team members are well-informed and tasks stay on track to meet goals.

Collaboration is a strength, and you enjoy building positive relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders alike. You’re personable and have a natural ability to connect with others, building rapport easily and fostering positive relationships with colleagues and partners.
