The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

Position Summary

The Community Safety Operations Officer will support the Community Safety Patrol Team by managing administrative tasks, ensuring effective rostering, maintaining safety standards, and securing council resources. The officer will also coordinate training and consult with community stakeholders to meet local needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Community Safety Patrol Manager, the Community Safety Operations officer will:

  • Assist with Community Safety Patrol reporting and administration requirements;
  • Assist with Coordinating recruitment efforts;
  • Assist with the application and exemption process for Working with Children Clearances and Police Checks, ensuring timely submission and compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Track expiration dates of Working with Children Clearances and Police Checks, reapplying as necessary to maintain up-to-date records;
  • Monitoring the validity of driver licences, tickets and checks;
  • Ensure efficient and effective rostering of Community Safety Patrol Officers;
  • Monitor work practices to ensure they align with the requirements of the Community Safety Patrol Operational Framework;
  • Monitor safe work practices and the reporting of incidents;
  • Ensure Council resources, keys, vehicles and equipment is secured and well maintained;
  • Coordinate and encourage training to improve Community Safety Patrol Officers knowledge and skills;
  • Coordinate and administer staff timesheets;
  • Encourage, by promoting and leading by example, behaviour that is in accordance with Councils Code of Conduct;
  • Work with the Community Safety Patrol Manager and Community Safety Patrol Team Leaders to consult with Community Stakeholders and individuals to ensure that activities, projects, programs and functions are responding to identified needs and priorities;
  • Monitor cultural activities within the Community, and report to the Chief Operations Officer and Community Safety Patrol Manager when there are important events (e.g. cultural customs);
  • Maintain a safe working environment;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Community Safety Patrol Manager.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in the community in an outreach capacity and / or patrol experience;
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, and ability to write basic reports to record events;
  • Sound computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Current Northern Territory Driver’s Licence;
  • National Criminal History Check clearance;
  • Current Working with Children clearance (Ochre Card);
  • Certificate III in Community Safety – or equivalent (desirable).
