The West Daly Regional Council covers 14,000 square kilometres and is located about 300 to 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin. The area is mainly rural, with three Indigenous communities at Peppimenarti, Nganmarriyanga and Wadeye which are managed by West Daly Regional Council (Council).

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing high quality, efficient and effective electrical services within the West Daly Region as required.

The Electrician will be responsible for carrying out electrical maintenance, installations, and repairs on Council-owned buildings, facilities, and infrastructure within the Wadeye region. The role supports the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient electrical services, contributing to the overall functionality and safety of community assets.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete electrical work in a timely and safe manner with minimal inconvenience to the community.
  • Undertake general electrical activities, including installation, repairs and maintenance.
  • Perform routine and emergency electrical maintenance and repairs on Council facilities.
  • Install, conduct testing and tagging of Council owned electrical systems & equipment.
  • Ensure high quality of work output in the delivery of projects that will include but is not limited to:
    • completing projects to Australian and Trade standards of work, on time and within set budgets;
    • assisting in the co-ordination of labour, contractors, plant and materials;
    • assisting in the planning, scheduling, coordinating and implementing daily activities and projects as required;
    • assisting in the review of practices and procedures to identify areas of improvement and make recommendations for improvement; and
    • assisting other trades as and when required.
  • Ensure the security of electrical plant, equipment and materials.
  • Conduct inspections and provide reports on electrical infrastructure.
  • Work collaboratively with other Council staff and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of works completed, including materials used and timeframes.
  • Other duties commensurate with skills and experience, as directed

About You

To be successful in the role, you must have:

  • Current Northern Territory Electrical Contractors Licence.
  • Previous trade experience relevant to this position.
  • Experience working with Air-conditioning units.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience writing summary of works reports.
  • Construction Induction (White Card).
  • Working in Confined Spaces Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Working at Heights Ticket (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current National Criminal History Check.
  • Working with Children (OCHRE) Card.
  • Current Northern Territory Drivers Licence.
