WestWords is looking for a Producer to join our small but dynamic team.

WestWords is a literary service organisation based in Parramatta. It began as a project-based organisation in 2007 and was established to promote and encourage reading, writing, and story-making by, and for, children and young people living in Western Sydney. In December 2014 it registered as a not-for-profit company. Now in its seventh year, with centres across Western Sydney, WestWords enjoys wide recognition as a leader in the literary sector, delivering opportunities to writers at varying stages of their careers across the region, developing and enhancing community sustainability through cultural vitality.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Commencement date: Negotiable

Location: Western Sydney – various locations inc. Campbelltown, Parramatta and Blacktown

Salary: $70,000 p.a. + plus super

Basis of employment: Full time

Employment conditions: Four weeks annual leave with 3 months probationary period

Reports to: Executive Director

Direct reports: Program staff, Admin staff, Casual contractors

Purpose of Position:

The Producer will assist the Executive Director in the development and delivery of the company’s annual program; be responsible for the management of staff and contractors delivering the program, and associated administrative tasks as necessary.

Personal Characteristics

A highly motivated individual, able to work autonomously and as part of a small team. Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated project management/producing experience in the arts sector (min. 5 years), in particular the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Australian contemporary arts/culture sector, detailing relevant relationship/s to literature and/or writing for performance.
  • Demonstrated effective planning, organisational, and time management skills, with an attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet required timeframes and outcomes.
  • Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using online and social media as avenues for effective marketing strategies.
  • Current driver’s license.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of children’s and young people’s literature practice in Australia.
  • Knowledge of the education sector.

Additional requirements

  • Ability to work, at times, on projects outside normal business hours.
  • Ability to work in a small office environment and external events sites.
  • Current (or application in process) working with children certificate.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary or professional qualifications or equivalent experience in arts management
