ANROWS (Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety) is driven by its mission to create a future free from violence against women and children. ANROWS is seeking an experienced and skilled Director of Communications and Engagement to join their team to lead and direct the media, communications, knowledge translation and impact, digital development and stakeholder engagement activities of ANROWS. The location of this role is flexible

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO, this role will be tasked with:

  • The creation and development of organisational strategies to support the reach of their knowledge base, in consultation with the senior leadership team.
  • Provide expert strategic advice about how to best influence evidence-based decision-making within government, practice management, services and in the community generally.
  • Manage media relations, oversees external communications practices in both digital and traditional media formats, and lead initiatives to foster meaningful connections and evidence implementation with various audiences.
  • Direct stakeholder engagement ensuring influence and implementation of ANROWS evidence across policymakers, practitioners, media and in collaboration with service, industry and community partners.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Extensive senior executive level experience in communications and stakeholder engagement roles.
  • Proven expertise in one or more areas of violence against women and/or their children, including an understanding of the role and impact of gender and other inequalities in relation to that violence, or analogous policy contexts.
  • Understanding of social policy and the application of research to policy, programs, and practice.
  • Experience working effectively with government agencies and non-government organisations to translate knowledge, influence policy reform and implement strategies.
  • Experience in leading and developing core organisational communication and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Experience managing/working with internal media teams to ensure external messaging reflects organisational narratives.
  • Experience supervising staff and demonstrated ability to lead a team to meet organisational objectives within strict deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certification is a plus.
