What we do

The Women’s Housing Company (WHC) Limited is a registered charity and Tier 1 Community Housing Provider managing over 1200 properties providing housing, accommodation and support services for women and children across Sydney, the Hunter and Coffs Harbour.

At WHC we provide housing and homelessness services to single women and women with children in NSW. Last year, we housed almost 1,700 women and children, as well as supported over 300 homeless women. We have a particular focus on addressing the housing needs of older women, women with children, and women who have experienced domestic and family violence.

About the role

The General Manager (GM), Assets, is responsible for driving asset strategy and growth and maintaining the Company’s assets in accordance with the Women’s Housing Company and Government asset management standards, agreements and regulations. The General Manager is responsible for developing and managing the Women’s Housing Company long term asset management plan to ensure the sustainability of its asset holdings across their life cycle. This position is also the principal representative in the property acquisition, refurbishment, and development process.

Key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Driving asset strategy for the Company including Asset Management Planning, portfolio strategy, gender equity housing design and innovation.
  • Identifying opportunities for acquisitions, developments and disposal of Company assets and manage related projects.
  • Identify and nurture partnerships that continue to grow quality, safe and appropriate housing for women.
  • Oversee procurement strategies, contractor agreements and contractor compliance and performance.
  • Oversee the responsive, cyclical and planned maintenance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with Homes NSW, WHS Standards, Australian Building Standards, local government requirements and other related statutory requirements and agreements.
  • Manage asset and property risks and develop mitigation strategies to eliminate and manage risks to tenants, staff, the community and the organisation.
  • Support the financial viability of the asset portfolio via the development, monitoring and management of operational KPIs.
  • Work with the CEO and Executive team to lead, promote and maintain a positive and collaborative workplace culture at Women’s Housing Company

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge

  • Tertiary qualification in planning, asset management, construction, building or related field or substantial equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in property/asset leadership, preferably in a community housing setting.
  • Demonstrated asset management technical skills, including in developing, implementing and monitoring cyclical maintenance programs, minor works and stand-alone maintenance projects.
  • A sound understanding of and commitment to the special housing needs of women and women’s housing solutions.
  • Excellent project management and contractor procurement skills and related experience.
  • A working knowledge of WHS, community housing asset management framework, Australian Building Standards; Residential Tenancies Act and other relevant legislation and standards.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills with proven success leading, coaching and mentoring teams to achieve business success.
  • Current NSW Driver’s license.
  • National police check and WWC check.
  • Full unrestricted working rights in Australia.
