What we do

The Women’s Housing Company (WHC) Limited is a registered charity and Tier 1 Community Housing Provider managing over 1200 properties providing housing, accommodation and support services for women and children across Sydney, the Hunter and Coffs Harbour.

At WHC we provide housing and homelessness services to single women and women with children in NSW.

Last year, we housed almost 1,700 women and children, as well as supported over 300 homeless women. We have a particular focus on addressing the housing needs of older women, women with children, and women who have experienced domestic and family violence.

Role Purpose

The Technical Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of the planned asset management programs. The Technical Officer will also provide expert property management advice to other areas of the business

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure we provide safe and appropriate housing to our tenants by project managing the delivery of modification programs necessary for the tenant cohort.
  • Develop and deliver the annual planned works program using a project management approach.
  • Ensure WHC properties are meeting building codes and practice standards by contributing to the development, review and delivery of the twenty-year Asset Management Plan (AMP).
  • Ensure WHC meets its statutory, state and local government legislative and planning requirements by maintaining strict adherence to workplace policies and procedures.
  • Support WHC to maintain strong financial performance through the accurate scoping and management of all vacant works to ensure completion within target timeframes and minimise loss of rental income.
  • Contribute to the growth of WHC by managing the implementation of new properties into the portfolio and contributing to tenders and new growth opportunities.
  • Support the delivery of quality homes by monitoring and auditing contractor performance and quality of work, including WHS and environmental compliance obligations, and identifying and escalating areas of risk across all our maintenance programs.
  • Support the Property Services Manager by managing contractor procurement processes, reviewing and keeping abreast of maintenance contracts and ensuring contractors are meeting their contractual obligations.
  • Support an efficient and effective Property Services team by developing and implementing best practice policies and procedures.
  • Support the Property Services Manager increase the profile and reputation of WHC by building and maintaining professional and positive relationships with relevant stakeholders, attending industry forums and being an active member of the property development and community housing sector.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge

  • NSW Driver’s license
  • White Card
  • Previous trade or licensed builder (desirable)
  • Trade Certificate IV or equivalent
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in construction, maintenance, skilled trades or property project management
  • Intermediate skills in all Microsoft Office 2010 applications
  • Knowledge of CHISOR schedule of rates (desirable)
  • Experience working with disadvantaged tenants
  • Mandatory National Criminal History Check and Working with Children Check
